BART charges a $5.75 Excursion Fare anytime a rider enters and exits the same station, regardless of whether the exit occurred within three minutes or three hours.
SF Supervisor Hillary Ronen and BART Director Bevan Dufty have been cleaning the 16th Street BART station every Wednesday for a month. "The conditions we have seen are truly disturbing . . . I am outraged about the health and safety risks to BART riders and my constituents who pass through the plaza every day," said Ronen.
A local assemblymember secured a promise of $20 million in state funding to build a parking garage for BART. But in the interim staff had come up with intriguing alternative proposals, and the board of directors opted for the quicker and less expensive option.
